Shivamogga
Airport, also known as the Shimoga Airport, is a domestic airport located in
Sogane, approximately 6.5 km from Shivamogga city in the Indian state of
Karnataka. The airport is owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India
(AAI) and was inaugurated in November 2018.
The Shivamogga Airport has a single runway with a
length of 1,370 meters and a width of 30 meters, capable of handling aircraft
such as ATR-72, Bombardier Q400, and similar turboprop aircraft. The airport
has a passenger terminal building that can handle up to 200 passengers at a
time, and is equipped with basic facilities such as check-in counters, security
check, and baggage handling.
The airport currently operates flights to and from
Bangalore, operated by Star Air, a regional airline based in Karnataka. The
flight duration between Shivamogga and Bangalore is approximately 45 minutes,
making it a convenient option for travelers who want to avoid the long journey
by road or rail.
The Shivamogga Airport is an important infrastructure
project for the region, as it has the potential to boost tourism and trade in
the area. With its strategic location and modern facilities, the airport is
expected to attract more airlines and increase air connectivity in the region,
providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.
