Jallianwala Bagh Massacre 104th Anniversary: A Tragic Turning Point in Indian History

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre 104th Anniversary: A Tragic Turning Point in Indian History April 13, 2023, marks the 104th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, one of the most tragic incidents in Indian history.

On this day in 1919, General Dyer and his troops entered the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar and opened fire on a peaceful crowd of protestors, killing over 500 people and injuring many more. The massacre was a turning point in India's fight for independence from British rule and had a significant impact on the country's political and social landscape. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was a result of the British colonial government's policies and actions towards the Indian people.

The arrest of two nationalist leaders, Satya Pal and Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew, sparked widespread protests across the country. In response, the British government imposed a curfew and banned all public meetings, including the gathering at Jallianwala Bagh. General Dyer, without any warning, ordered his troops to open fire on the peaceful protesters, causing immense loss of life and injuries.

The impact of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre was profound and far-reaching. It galvanized the Indian freedom struggle and led to the emergence of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, who advocated non-violent civil disobedience as a means to achieve independence. The tragedy also led to a surge in nationalist sentiment and a demand for self-rule, which eventually led to India's independence in 1947.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre remains a haunting memory for the Indian people, and the site has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom and justice. In 1951, a memorial was built at Jallianwala Bagh to commemorate the victims of the tragedy. The museum at the memorial displays artefacts related to the incident and serves as a reminder of the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the massacre.

In conclusion, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre was a dark chapter in India's history, but it also served as a catalyst for change. The tragedy inspired Indians to fight for their rights and led to the emergence of a strong and united movement for independence. As we remember the victims of this tragic event on its 104th anniversary, we must also recognize their sacrifices and honor their memory by continuing to fight for justice and equality.

Encounter in Jhansi: Gangster's Son Wanted for Umesh Pal Murder Killed in Police Action

On April 12, 2023, Uttar Pradesh police carried out an encounter in Jhansi, resulting in the deaths of two men wanted in the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal. The deceased have been identified as Asad Ahmed, son of dreaded gangster Atiq Ahmed, and Ghulam. Both men had a reward of ₹ 5 lakh on their heads and were considered to be the prime suspects in Pal's murder. Asad had been captured on CCTV during the attack on Pal and had been on the run since.

According to police sources, Asad had fled to Lucknow after the murder of Umesh Pal and then moved to Kanpur, Meerut, and Delhi before deciding to flee to Madhya Pradesh. He had reached Jhansi and was on his way to the state border on a bike when police intercepted him. Asad was reportedly in disguise at the time of the encounter. Police sources revealed that they had an informer in Atiq Ahmed's gang who had tipped them off about Asad's whereabouts.

A team of 12 police officers, led by two DSP-rank officers, carried out the operation. The encounter took place at Babina road in Jhansi, and a total of 42 rounds were fired during the operation. Sophisticated weapons, new cellphones, and SIM cards were recovered from the deceased.

The murder of Umesh Pal had shocked the nation when it happened on February 24, 2023. Pal, who was a witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead in a daylight attack outside his home in Prayagraj. The security personnel guarding him were also killed. The attack had raised questions about Uttar Pradesh's law and order situation, and the government had come under strong criticism by the opposition.

Umesh Pal's murder had put the spotlight back on Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician with over 100 cases against him. A former Samajwadi Party MP, he was convicted last month in a kidnapping case and sentenced to life imprisonment. This case related to the kidnapping of Umesh Pal back in 2006, 17 years before he was eventually murdered.

The encounter killings of Asad Ahmed and Ghulam have brought some closure to the case and will likely be seen as a victory for law enforcement. However, it also raises questions about the use of encounters as a means of dealing with criminals, as well as the larger issue of the nexus between crime and politics in India.

In conclusion, the encounter in Jhansi has brought an end to the search for the prime suspects in the murder of Umesh Pal. The deceased, Asad Ahmed and Ghulam, were wanted criminals with a history of violence. The use of encounters in dealing with criminals remains a controversial issue in India, and the case highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to tackling the issue of crime and politics in the country.

IPL 2023: Axar Patel's comment on DC skipper David Warner's slow strike rate becomes talking point

The IPL 2023 has been full of exciting moments and controversies, and the recent game between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians was no different. The focus of the post-match press conference was on the slow strike rate of DC skipper David Warner, and vice-captain Axar Patel's comment on the matter.

Axar Patel was asked about his batting position, and he laughed heartily before responding to the question. He then went on to reveal that everyone in the DC camp is talking about David Warner's slow strike rate and that the skipper is trying hard but not able to hit it properly.

Despite Warner's slow strike rate, he is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with three fifties in four games. However, all of his fifties have been in losing causes, which has become a matter of concern for DC.

In their latest loss to Mumbai, DC collapsed after Axar Patel's dismissal. Axar, however, blamed himself for getting out and not adding a few more runs to their total. He also praised Rohit Sharma and Tilak Verma for their brilliant batting that helped Mumbai Indians secure their first points of the season.

The DC skipper's slow strike rate has become a talking point among cricket fans, and even Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting were unamused after Warner's last-ball throw in DC's loss to MI.

It remains to be seen how David Warner will respond to the criticism, but his performances in the upcoming games will be closely watched by fans and experts alike.

In conclusion, the IPL 2023 has provided fans with plenty of drama and excitement, and the slow strike rate of DC skipper David Warner is the latest talking point. While his performances have been impressive, they have come in losing causes, and it remains to be seen how he will perform in the rest of the tournament.
